SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel junior Eric Goins has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition that was held Nov. 4-10, the league office announced Wednesday.

Goins, a kicker on the Bulldogs’ football team, set two program records by making five field goals and tallying 17 points on Saturday in a 35-14 win over VMI, which clinched at least a share of the SoCon crown. His five made field goals are tied for the fourth-highest single-game total in SoCon history, and his 17 points are tied for sixth-most in league history for one contest. The Herndon, Va., product also tallied five touchbacks on eight kickoffs in the game. He is 33-of-33 on extra points and 10-of-12 on field goals this season.

In the classroom, Goins holds a 3.98 grade point average as a political science major with a double minor in business and national intelligence and homeland security. He has earned Gold Stars every semester, which requires a minimum grade point average of 3.7. Additionally, he has earned SoCon Fall Academic Team honors twice, the Commissioner’s Medal three times and SoCon Honor Roll recognition three times.
