GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman senior Stephanie DeVita has been named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Player of the Week after leading the Paladins to the Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Championship title and an NCAA berth this past weekend.

The Simpsonville, S.C., native and Hillcrest High School product, who was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week on Tuesday, followed up her three-goal performance versus Wofford in the quarterfinal round of the SoCon tournament by delivering late for the Paladins in the semifinal round versus UNCG. DeVita tied the match at 1-1 in the 83rd minute on a header at the near post off of Rachel Shah’s corner kick and gave Furman the dramatic victory when she chipped a shot over the goalkeeper’s head and off the cross bar with just five seconds left in regulation to secure the 2-1 win.

In Sunday’s SoCon final, DeVita scored on another Shah assist in the 105th minute to hand Furman its sixth SoCon tournament title and seventh trip to the NCAA postseason. The midfielder was named the tournament’s most outstanding player for the second time in three years after scoring all six of Furman’s goals in three tournament matches.

DeVita, a four-time All-SoCon pick, increased her SoCon career goals record to 68 and captured the SoCon crown for Furman with her 29th career match-winning score. She leads the SoCon this season with 18 goals.

The Paladins (17-4-1) open NCAA tournament play on Saturday at 7 p.m. when they face nationally ranked Clemson at Historic Riggs Field in Clemson, S.C.
