SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer defender Ian Antley has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition Sept. 28 to Oct. 4. The selection is made by the league office.
Antley, a junior from Sharpsburg, Ga., scored a goal and added an assist in two games as the Bears went 1-1 to open SoCon play last week.
On Tuesday, Antley scored the tying goal in the 63rd minute of action on a penalty kick in an eventual 2-1, overtime loss at UNCG. He followed that up by assisting on the game-winner in double overtime against Wofford on Saturday as the Bears claimed a 2-1 win over the Terriers.
The award is the first of Antley’s career.
Mercer (6-4-0, 1-1-0 SoCon) will host league-leading Furman (3-3-2, 2-0-0 SoCon) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a rematch of the 2015 SoCon Championship title game.
Also nominated: Christian Ilia (ETSU), Sven Lissek (Furman) and Connor Davis (Wofford).
