SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Daniel Riddle has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition that was held Oct. 21-27, the league office announced Wednesday.
Riddle, a redshirt sophomore linebacker, played a significant role in the Catamounts’ 56-36 win over Samford on Saturday. The Raleigh, N.C., native notched 11 tackles and his first career interception in the game – a one-handed snag on a throw from Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges, which he returned 46 yards to the 2-yard line. He later broke up a two-point conversion try.
The performance was Riddle’s sixth consecutive double-digit tackle effort and earned him SoCon defensive player of the week honors on Monday. He currently leads the conference and ranks third nationally with an average of 12.7 tackles per game.
Riddle boasts a 3.31 grade point average as an engineering technology major. He is a two-time SoCon Honor Roll recipient.
