SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman goalkeeper Sven Lissek has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition Oct. 12-18. The selection is made by the league office.

Lissek notched two shutouts on the week to help Furman to a 1-0-1 week and back into sole possession of first place in the SoCon standings. The senior from Sewau, Germany, recorded five saves in a 2-0 win at ETSU on Tuesday and added three more saves in a scoreless draw at UNCG on Saturday.

The shutouts were Lissek’s fourth and fifth of the season, all of which have come in his last six matches. His two scoreless outings lowered his season goals-against average to a SoCon-best 0.65.

Lissek is up to 26 shutouts in his career, good for third in SoCon history and one back of second-place Scott Blount, who had 27 for the Paladins from 1997-01.

The weekly award is second of his career. Lissek also won the award on Oct. 15, 2013.

Furman (5-4-3, 4-1-1 SoCon) hosts VMI (0-14-0, 0-6-0 SoCon) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Also nominated: Fletcher Ekern (ETSU), Will Bagrou (Mercer), Jon Milligan (UNCG) and Nestor Jaramillo (Wofford).
