SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga junior Derrick Craine has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition that was held Oct. 7-13, the league office announced Wednesday.
Craine, a running back for the sixth-ranked Mocs’ football team, had a big week on the ground in Chattanooga’s 31-3 win over conference foe Furman on Saturday. The McDonough, Ga., native rolled up 138 yards rushing on 21 carries and tied a career high with three rushing touchdowns. On the Mocs’ final scoring drive, which spanned 12 plays and 94 yards, Craine contributed seven carries for 74 yards. He also tacked on three catches for 23 yards in the contest. The performance marked his second career multi-touchdown game.
He currently ranks third in the SoCon with an average of 95.4 rushing yards per game.
Craine is an exercise science major and currently holds a 3.61 grade point average. He made the SoCon Honor Roll and earned the SoCon Commissioner's Medal in 2013 and 2014.
