Furman wins Yale Intercollegiate
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Furman (+16) placed four players among the top 13 to win the Yale Intercollegiate by five strokes over second-place Clemson (+21) Sunday at the par-71, 6,008-yard The Course at Yale.
Sophomore Alice Chen (E) finished third after scoring a 76 on Sunday, while freshman Haylee Harford (+1), who carded two crucial birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 to keep the Paladins in the lead, tallied a final-round 72 for fourth place. Chen was two strokes back and Harford three strokes behind individual winners Lauren Stephenson (-2) of Clemson and Michigan’s Emily White (-2), who each posted a three-round total of 211.
Sophomore Jacqueline Bendrick (+10) and junior Taylor Totland (+10) tied for 13th. Bendrick fired a team-best 68 on Sunday, leading the Paladins with five birdies, including four on the back nine to keep Furman in contention. Totland birdied No. 3 and No. 17 to score a 74 on Sunday.
Sophomore Reona Hirai (+12), who was playing as an individual, tied for 20th after birdieing No. 4 and No. 16 to shoot a 77 in the final round, while senior Valentina Romero (+21) tied for 50th with a 78 on Sunday.
Furman will compete at the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island, S.C., Oct. 25-27.
