SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Brandon Hazouri has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and teammate Keyth Fightmaster has been named the Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. Western Carolina runner Tayla Carter has been named the Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and teammate Chenell Bryan was picked as the Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.
Hazouri posted a time of 4:10 in the mile at the Auburn Invitational on January 17. The junior from Hoover, Ala. leads the SoCon mile list with that time.
Fightmaster equaled Samford’s indoor school record in the high jump with a leap of 6-10.75 at the Auburn Invitational. The freshman’s mark currently leads the SoCon in the high jump.
Carter ran a 7.50 in the 60m dash at the ETSU Invitational on January 16-17. At the same event, she was a part of the 4 x 400m relay team that clocked a 3:47.47. Both of the performances are leading marks in the SoCon this season.
Bryan jumped to a mark of 19-5 ½ in the long jump at the Clemson Orange/Purple Classic meet on January 10. This mark currently leads the SoCon by almost one foot. The sophomore also has marks that rank in the top six in the triple jump and top seven in the 60m dash.
