SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga guard Alicia Payne has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Payne scored 10 points in each of the Mocs’ conference wins over Western Carolina and UNCG over the past week. She added six assists, three in each contest, and five steals while committing just two turnovers in the two games.
The junior ranks fifth in the SoCon in assists per game at 3.1 and leads the Southern Conference in assist-turnover ratio at 2.3. Payne also grabs 1.3 steals per game, which ranks 10th in the SoCon.
The native of Memphis, Tenn. carries a 3.83 grade point average as a Social Work major. She recorded a 4.0 GPA for each of the last two semesters and has been named to the Chattanooga Dean’s List and Athletics Director’s Honor Roll each semester. Last year, she was selected to the SoCon Winter All-Academic team as a sophomore.
