CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s tennis team opened up spring dual competition with a 7-0 win over Austin Peay today.  The Mocs won all 10 matches played indoors at Manker Patten in Chattanooga, Tenn.

“It’s a great start to the season to run 7-0, to sweep the doubles and singles in straight sets,” stated head coach Jeff Clark. “It’s fun to come over to Manker Patten and play in front of a lot of Mocs fans and tennis fans in town. We’re glad they came out to support us.”

UTC quickly swept the three doubles matches.  Early season duals use experimental rules, which include no-ad scoring and doubles matches to six instead of eight.

Junior Kayla Jones and freshman Samantha Caswell cruised to a 6-1 win over Ornella di Salvo and Hannah Tatlock at No. 1.  Senior Kaylene Chadwell and sophomore Rachele Gazzola shut out Jovana Karac and Isabela Jovanovic 6-0 at No. 3, followed by juniors Kelsey Coots and Katie Polk’s 6-4 win at No. 2.

Jones led the way in singles play with a (6-1, 6-0) win at No. 1.  Chadwell, Coots and Caswell won at No. 2, 3 and 4 respectively.  Senior Claire Mulyadi picked up the win at No. 5 while junior Alison Storie won at No. 6.

“Kayla Jones played a really great singles match, especially in the second set,” continued Clark. “She made very few forced errors and played really smart. It’s nice to see our seniors, CC Mulyadi and Kaylene Chadwell, have a strong start to their final season. We are certainly going to need them to be successful in order for the team to do well this year.”
