Davidson downs Anderson
ANDERSON, S.C. – In its first competition of 2015, the Davidson wrestling team posted a 31-18 win over Anderson. Behind pins from Kevin Birmingham, Patrick Devlin and Scott Patrick, the Wildcats won seven of the 10 bouts.
Anthony Elias got things rolling for Davidson at 133 pounds with a 5-2 decision over Zak Hale before Birmingham posted a pin over Charlton Clark at 141 pounds The senior pinned his opponent at the 3:46 mark.
Anderson earned consecutive wins at 149 pounds and 157 pounds before Devlin pinned Anderson's Jared Costa at the 3:49 mark at 165 pounds. Nathaniel Powers padded Davidson's lead with a major decision at 174 pounds. Powers picked up a 17-8 win over Tre'vontay Rhodes.
Patrick earned his first pin of the 2014-15 season at 184 pounds The fifth-year senior pinned Michael Gallagher at the 4:27 mark. At 197 pounds, Ian Solcz collected a 6-2 decision over Austin Price, while Eddie Isola earned a 13-6 decision over Wyatt McCrackin.
Davidson returns to the mats Friday, Jan. 23, at Belk Arena. The Wildcats kick off Southern Conference action with a tri-meet with VMI and SIUE.

Northern Illinois rallies past SIUE
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Northern Illinois won the last three matches of the wrestling dual Saturday for a 19-15 come-from-behind victory over SIUE.
SIUE and Northern Illinois each won five matches, but the difference in the team score was a forfeit in favor of the Huskies at 125 pounds and a major decision by NIU's Andrew Morse over Erik Travers at 157 pounds.
In front of a crowd at the Prairie Convention Center, Derek Nagel got the Cougars off to a good start for the second straight day. He was a 5-2 winner over Quinton Rosser at 184 pounds.
Chris Johnson collected a 2-1 overtime win over Arthur Bunce at 285 pounds. SIUE also picked up back-to-back victories by Patrick Myers at 133 pounds, Angelo Silvestro at 141 pounds and Karsten Van Velsor at 141 pounds.
With the Cougars up 15-9, Morse, Shaun'Qae McMurtry and Trace Engelkes followed up for the Huskies with 10 straight team points for the team victory.
SIUE, 3-12, returns to Southern Conference action next Friday with a pair of dual meets against Davidson and VMI.
