SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel’s Matt Frisch has been named the Southern Conference wrestler of the week for all competition from Jan. 7-13. The selection is made by the league office.Frisch went 4-0 at 149 pounds at the Virginia Duals in Hampton, Va., on Friday and Saturday.The junior from Oxford, Mich., opened his tournament with a 7-4 win over Rider’s B.J. Clagon on Friday and followed that up with an 8-3 win over TJ Miller of No. 16 Virginia. In the Bulldogs’ third dual match of the day, Frisch topped Kent State’s Michael DePalma, 7-4.In Saturday’s action, Frisch pinned Nebraska-Kearney’s Destin McCauley, ranked No. 7 nationally at 149 in Division II, in 4:26. The Citadel topped UNK, ranked No. 3 nationally at the DII level, by a 24-14 count. The Bulldogs (3-3, 1-0 SoCon) return to the mats Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they host Gardner-Webb (4-4, 1-0 SoCon) in Charleston, S.C.
