SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference’s 2014-15 men’s basketball season opens Nov. 14 as all 10 league teams will take the floor. The league’s complete composite schedule is now available at soconsports.com and will conclude with the 2015 Southern Conference Tournament in Asheville, N.C. The opening night of the season includes a nonconference matchup between The Citadel and VMI. That game was previously scheduled as part of the annual All-Military Classic prior to the Keydets’ return to the league.  

League teams are slated to participate in a number of prestigious exempt tournaments, including the All-Military Classic (The Citadel and VMI), Maui on the Mainland (Samford), Coaches vs. Cancer Classic (Wofford), CBE Classic (Western Carolina), Great Alaska Shootout (Mercer), Battle 4 Atlantis (Chattanooga) and EMU Classic (UNCG).

Wednesday, Dec. 3, marks the start of conference play as Western Carolina visits ETSU. Two additional conference games are on the schedule for that weekend. Samford travels to Furman and Mercer welcomes VMI to Macon, Ga., on Saturday, Dec. 6.  The league’s other four schools open conference play the next week. The conference slate features an 18-game double-round-robin schedule, producing a true regular-season champion.

The conference season concludes Saturday, Feb. 28, with a full slate of five league games to close the regular season. All 10 teams will take part in the annual Southern Conference tournament, the longest-running conference tournament in the nation. The opening round is set for Friday, March 6, and the championship game is scheduled for Monday, March 9.
