SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU cross country runners Katie Hirko and Matt Warriner were named Southern Conference Women’s and Men’s Runner of the Week, respectively, for competitions of September 19-20, the league office announced on Wednesday.

The pair competed at the Va. Tech Invitational on Saturday against stiff competition that included Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech. Warriner led the Bucs to a third-place team finish on the men’s side while Hirko led the women to a fifth-place finish.

Individually, Hirko finished 10th in the women’s 6K event, the only runner not from Florida State or North Carolina to finish inside the top 10. The junior nutrition major recorded a time of 21:43.90.

Warriner also finished 10th on the men’s side in his first race of the season. The sophomore from Maryville, Tenn. had a time of 25:17.80 in the 8K event.
