SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Tanner Hinkle and Chattanooga’s Teghan Henderson were named Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Runner of the Week, respectively, for competitions of September 13, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Hinkle, a native of Mason, Mich., won the Furman Classic on Saturday with an 8K time of 24:17:78. The sophomore held off Auburn All-American Ty McCormack to win by less than two seconds.

Hinkle led the Paladins to a team win over stiff competition that included Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and Wake Forest. The economics major was an All-Conference and All-Freshman team selection last season.

Henderson, a native of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, received the women’s honor for the second straight week. The junior claimed her second victory in as many weeks and her fifth straight regular season victory overall after a first-place finish at the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic on Saturday.

The returning All-American set a new 5K personal record with a time of 16:53.25, four seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Henderson, who was also named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week on September 10, led the Mocs to an eighth-place team finish.
