SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Lewis Hawke has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Sept. 8-14. The selection is Hawke’s second straight and was made by the league office.

Hawke had the lone goal in Furman’s 1-0 win over No. 8 Coastal Carolina on Friday. In the 76th minute of play, the Howwood, Scotland, sophomore converted from the middle of the box for his fourth goal of the season.

The victory was Furman’s fourth in a row after a season-opening loss to Seattle and was the Paladins’ second over a ranked squad this season, as Furman also downed No. 18 UC Santa Barbara on Aug. 31. As a result, the Paladins moved into the Soccer America Men’s Top 25 at No. 22 Monday.

Hawke leads the SoCon with nine points on four goals and one assist this season and shares the conference lead in goals. Three of his four goals have been game-winners, also a league-best mark.

Furman (4-1), will head to Lexington, Ky., to take on Kentucky on Friday at 7 p.m.

Also nominated: Greg Ranjitsingh (Mercer) and Dustin Gamradt (UNCG).
