SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer midfielder Lauren Gassie has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Sept. 8-14. The selection is made by the league office.

Gassie, a senior from Winter Park, Fla., accounted for all of the Bears’ offense in a 2-1 win over Presbyterian on Sunday, tying the game in the sixth minute after the Blue Hose had scored in the third minute and adding the game-winner in 65th minute.

The two-goal, four-point game matched her career single-game highs. Gassie leads Mercer and is tied for 10th in the SoCon with seven points on three goals and an assist this season.

Mercer (4-3), which has won four of its last five after opening the season 0-2, returns to action Friday at Georgia State for a 7 p.m. kick.

Also nominated: Hannah Short (ETSU), Taylor Borman (Samford), Kelly Pannell (Western Carolina) and Kara Boggs (Wofford).
