Chattanooga sixth at Cardinal Cup
SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The Chattanooga Mocs got off to a good start before struggling in the afternoon to shoot 604 over Monday’s 36 holes at the Cardinal Cup at the University of Louisville Golf Club. The Mocs shot 297 in the morning round before turning in a 307 in the afternoon.
Emily McLennan is tied for seventh at 3-over. She turned in a 2-under-par 70 in round one before she came back with a 77 over the second 18. She is five shots off the lead held by Michaela Fletcher of Memphis at 2-under.
Sarah Dolmovich had a solid day in her first start. She carded a 76 in the morning before a team-low 74 on her next trek through UofL Golf Club. She is tied for 17th at 150 (+6).
Agathe Sauzon and Isabella Loza rounded out the morning counting scores shooting 75 and 76, respectively. They are tied at 154 heading into Tuesday’s final round. Megan Woods improved six shots in round two and stands at 162 in her first collegiate action. Fellow freshman Cris Perez is at 165 playing as an individual.
Middle Tennessee took the lead from the start and has it overnight at 8-over (584). The Blue Raiders lead host Louisville (593) and Memphis (594) in second and third. Fletcher (-2) holds the individual leads by a stroke over Kennesaw State’s Kaew Preamchuen.
The final round is a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Mocs are paired with James Madison, Ball State and Louisville individuals.
Wofford ninth at William & Mary Invitational
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Wofford College women’s golf team shot a 19-over-par 307 on Monday and remains in ninth place through two rounds of the William & Mary Fall Invitational, hosted by the Tribe at Kingsmill Resort, Plantation Course.
The Terriers were 10 shots better in round two than in Sunday’s first round, but so was the overall scoring average. Monday’s second-round average of 305 kept Wofford in the nine spot, where it is now tied with Longwood at 48-over-par 624. Five shots in front of the Terriers is Georgetown (+43), while fourth-place Towson and Seton Hall are both within striking distance at 10 shots in front (+38). The tournament leader is Elon (+9) by 19 strokes over Morehead State (+28).
Freshman Nicole Chin entered the day tied for fifth and dropped back to 18th with a 7-over 79. She is tied with three others at 9-over 154.
Wofford’s best round-two performance came from senior Lauren Dubar and freshman Lela Oakley. Each shot a 3-over 75, improving by seven and eight strokes, respectively, from their Sunday rounds. Dunbar is tied for 39th at 13-over, while Oakley is tied for 42nd at 14-over, along with Wofford sophomore Katy Funk.
Junior Maegan Higgins rounds out Wofford’s starting five. Higgins is alone in 52nd at 17-over-par.
The Terriers will compete in the final round of the William & Mary Fall Invitational on Tuesday.
UNCG 23rd at Powerade Cougar Classic
HANAHAN, S.C. – UNCG senior women’s golfer Berglind Bjornsdottir turned in her second straight score of 3-over 75 Monday afternoon at the Powerade Cougar Classic to lead the Spartans in round two at the Yeamans Hall Club. The third and final round is set for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start with UNCG slated to begin on holes Nos. 16-18.
Bjornsdottir sits in a tie for 58th place after 36 holds, while the Spartans are in 23rd as a team with a 620 (307-313). She posted three birdies on the day to go along with six bogeys and nine par scores, as she is 6-over-par 150 (75-75) through two rounds.
Arkansas holds the team lead with a 9-under-par 567 (283-284), while Wake Forest and UCLA are two shots back at 7-under-par 569. Sierra Sims of Wake Forest holds the individual lead at 11-under-par 133 (65-68), owning a three-stroke lead over Bronte Law of UCLA and Augusta James of NC State.
Junior Sammie Buchanan opened the event with an even-par 72 in round one Sunday before following that up with a 9-over-par 81 Monday. Buchanan is tied for 77th overall at 9-over-par 153 (72-81). Sophomore Kristin Powers carded the Spartans’ second-best score of round two, turning in a 4-over-par 76. Powers is 12-over-par 156 (80-76) after 36 holes, sitting in 99th place.
Junior transfer Jessica Madsen is 17-over-par 161 (80-81) after two rounds, while sophomore Maddi MacClurg is 19-over-par 163 (81-82).
