SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Teghan Henderson and Josh Gilpin were named Southern Conference Women’s and Men’s Runner of the Week, respectively, for competitions of September 5-6, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Henderson, a native of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, successfully defended her Powerade Invitational title on Friday night at the Moccasin Bend course. The junior held off Tennessee’s Chelsea Blaase in the final 50 meters to take first in the event.

The returning All-American set a new course record with a time of 10:30 for the two-mile race. Henderson helped the Mocs go 6-1 at the event in the double-duel format, including a win over Tennessee.

On the men’s side, Gilpin led the Mocs to a win in five of the six dual meets with the lone loss to Tennessee. The senior finished 10th overall with a 5K time of 15:51 in the team’s first meet of the season.

Gilpin, a native of Nashville, Tenn., is a pre-physical therapy major.
