• Seven Southern Conference teams are in action this week, while The Citadel is idle.

• Home teams are 0-1 in conference play this season after going 21-15 last year.

• The lone league game this season was decided by one possession. Sixteen of the SoCon’s 36 league games were decided by one possession last year.

• Two Southern Conference teams are ranked in both major FCS polls this week. Chattanooga is ranked 17th by the FCS coaches and 14th by the Sports Network. Furman was tabbed 12th in both polls.
• Samford, Western Carolina and Wofford are among the teams receiving votes.

• Mercer and VMI entered the Southern Conference for the 2014 season. Chattanooga (1977) and Georgia Southern (1991) are the only two programs to win the league championship in their first years of eligibility. Below are the records during the inaugural seasons of the last five teams to enter the SoCon:
Samford (2008): 4-4
Elon (2003): 1-7
Wofford (1997): 2-6
Georgia Southern (1993): 7-1
ETSU (1979): 2-3

• Southern Conference teams are 27-33 (.450) all-time in overtime games. The most recent overtime game was Sept. 10, 2014, when Chattanooga fell to Jacksonville State, 26-23.
