GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman’s Taylor Totland has qualified for the 114th United States Women’s Amateur Championship, to be held Aug. 4-10, at Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, N.Y. Totland, who recently completed her freshman campaign on the Paladin team, carded a 72 in the final round of qualifying at Montammy Golf Club in Alpine, N.J., earlier this week to earn co-medalist honors.

Totland, a native of Tinton Falls, N.J., was chosen the 2014 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year after placing second with a 76-74-76=226 at the league championship tournament in April. She sunk her first career hole-in-one on No. 5 in the second round of the SoCon Championship. Totland was named to the All-Southern Conference Team and the SoCon All-Freshman Team and garnered Furman Team MVP honors after leading the Paladins with a 74.9 stroke average over 26 rounds.

Totland, who fired a career-best 69 in the final round of the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate to tie for 14th place, scored a sixth-place finish with a 71-72-72=215 at the Lady Paladin Invitational. She recorded four top-20 finishes and two top-10 finishes as a rookie during the 2013-14 season.

More than 150 players will open tournament play with 36 holes of stroke play Aug. 4-5. The top 64 players following the second day of stroke play will advance to match play. Each round of match play will be televised by the Golf Channel.

Furman golfers have a long history of success at the U.S. Women’s Amateur. Former Paladin and LPGA Hall-of-Famer Beth Daniel claimed the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1975 and 1977, while former Furman standout Brandi Jackson claimed a runner-up finish at the tournament in 2002. Current LPGA Futures Tour star Stefanie Kenoyer qualified for the 2010 U.S. Women’s Amateur along with former Paladin Liz Wendt, who also competed in the tournament in 2012, and Furman alum Alexa Rancourt qualified for the championship in 2011.
