Five Men's, Eight Women's Teams Earn USTFCCCA Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Five Southern Conference men’s track and field teams and eight women’s programs were named All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Friday.

On the men’s side, Chattanooga led all teams in grade point average (GPA) with a 3.60 mark for 2013-14 school year. The Mocs topped Long Beach State (3.43), Seattle (3.38), Harvard (3.38) and Duke (3.37) for the top spot in the country.

Chattanooga was joined on the men’s side by East Tennessee State (3.14), Furman (3.19), Wofford (3.05) and UNCG (3.26).

The Mocs also led all SoCon teams on the women’s side with a 3.54 GPA with Furman second with a 3.37 mark. Western Carolina, the indoor track and field champions, earned a 3.20 GPA while outdoor champions Samford compiled a 3.24 GPA.

The four also were joined on the list by East Tennessee State (3.32), Mercer (3.32), UNCG (3.24) and Wofford (3.32).

A total of 208 women’s teams and 116 men’s teams earned the distinction as a result of earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher.
