SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior Audrey Coventry of the Wofford women’s tennis team was awarded the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award for the Carolina Region on Tuesday. She is the first individual tennis player and women’s tennis player in Wofford College tennis history to receive the award.

The ITA/Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship goes to a Division I women’s player who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team’s performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis. It dates back to 1997 and is memory of the late Penn women's tennis coach Cissie Leary.

Coventry will be up against the 11 other regional winners for the national award.  The voting will take place at the NCAA women’s tennis championships in Athens, Georgia on May 18.

This is Coventry’s second sportsmanship award of the season as she also was the winner of the Southern Conference Sportsmanship Award for the 2014 season.

Wofford head women’s tennis coach Krissy Hall was also a Sportsmanship Award recipient for the East region in 2002 while playing at Virginia Tech. “It’s pretty special to have one of my players win it as well, said Hall.”
