BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University men’s tennis won its Senior Day contest against Southern Conference foe Wofford by a score of 6-1 on Tuesday at the Appalachian Tennis Courts.

The Mountaineers (9-11, 6-2 SoCon) won their second straight match while the Terriers (6-12, 1-7) fell for the third-straight time in league play.

Appalachian took the doubles point winning all but one match. Sebastien King/Zach Bost found the easy 8-5 win at No. 1 but the Terriers defeated Oliver Casey/Daniel Hoang at No. 2, forcing a decisive contest at No. 3, where the Mountaineer duo of Steve Lake/Jack Maddocks came through with a clutch 8-4 win.

The Mountaineers found themselves down early in singles play, but forced tiebreakers to regain the advantage. Jan-Willem Kleynhans won their first singles point with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 6 before King took his No. 1 match with the tiebreaker 6-2, 7-6 (8-2). At the No. 2 spot, Casey came away with the easy win 6-4, 7-5.

Hoang fought back from losing the first set 5-7, but went on to win 7-6 (7-4), 10-7 in the tiebreaker at No. 4. Maddocks continued his impressive freshman year at the No. 5 position, coming back as well from a 5-7 set loss to win 7-6 (7-4), 10-7. Wofford managed to win the final singles point at No. 3, with Walker Heffron downing Bost 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-3).
