UNCG Competes at VertKlasse Meeting
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s and men’s outdoor track and field team participated in the annual High Point VertKlasse Meet this weekend at Dick Vert Stadium.

Senior Kelly Montague  led the way at High Point, posting two personal records on the weekend. Montague finished 10th overall in the 1,500-meter distance with a top time of 4:46.65, while also turning in a personal-best time in the 800-meter distance at 2:23.26, finishing 21st overall.

Senior Shannon Hall also set a new personal-best time in the 1,500-meter distance, placing 12th overall with a time of 4:47.86. Hall also finished seventh overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.48. Sophomore Katherine Link  added a personal-best time of 4:48.31 in the 1,500-meter race to finish 14th overall. Classmate Katelyn Ayers rounded out the Spartans finishing in the top 20 on the weekend, placing 19th in the 1,500-meter distance with a time of 4:53.30.

Senior Tyron Alston was the Spartans’ top finisher at the VertKlasse Meet, placing third overall in the 800-meter distance with a time of 1:56.44. Freshman Jonathon Hodge placed 18th in the race with a time of 1:59.49.


In the 1,500-meter distance, Alston finished 18th overall with a time of 4:01.53 to lead UNCG. Junior Dylan Belles turned in a personal-best time of 4:02.07 in the 1,500-meter distance to place 21st overall.

 

Davidson Competes at VertKlasse Meeting
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Davidson men's track and field earned two more top-five finishes on the second and final day of competition Saturday at The VertKlasse Meeting, hosted by High Point.
 
Charles Rappe had a busy day in the hurdles, competing in both the 400- and 110-meter events, ultimately placing fifth in the 110m finals in 15.14 seconds, earning a place on Davidson's top-10 all-time performers list in the event, after advancing out of the preliminaries earlier in the day (15.17). Rappe placed 13th in the 400m hurdles in 55.96 seconds.
 
Nate Faubion led the Wildcats in the 400-meter dash, placing fifth in 50.83. He also competed in the 200-meter dash (23.53).
 

Xzavier Killingsled Davidson in the jumps, placing sixth with a top leap of 43 feet, 1 ½ inches (13.14m) in the triple jump, and eighth in the long jump at 21-7 ½ (6.59m). He also competed in the 100-meter dash (11.40 seconds).
 
Also in the field, Michael Lorenstsen placed eighth in the pole vault, clearing 14 feet (4.27m).
 
Additionally, Patrick Rollo led Davidson in the 800-meter run in 1:54.63 to place 10th, and Stewart Dalton led in the 100-meter dash in a personal-best 10.95 seconds, earning a place on Davidson all-time top-10 performers list.
 
On Friday,Whitner Chase completed the 5,000-meter run in 15:06.34 to place fifth, while Aaron Forburger gave Davidson another top-10 finish by placing ninth in 15:29.40.
 
The Wildcats also received a strong distance performance from Grayam Sailor-Tynes, who completed the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a Davidson top-10 all-time and personal-best time of 9:21.24.
 
Jonathan Campbell also earned a top-10 placing in the javelin, ranking eighth with a top throw of 162 feet, 7 inches.
 
Additionally, freshman Walker Mogen led the 'Cats in the 1,500-meter run, in 4:02.53.

 

Elon Competes at Liberty Collegiate
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Four event titles and a new school record by sophomore Simone Jackson in the 100-meters highlighted final day of the Liberty Collegiate Invitational for the Elon University women’s track and field team on Saturday, April 5, at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex.

Jackson broke the previous school record of 12.29 that was held by Dana Cataldo after clocking in a time of 12.18 in the 100-meters today. Jackson, who had recorded the second-fastest time in program history earlier this season, finished third overall in the race.

Jackson was a member of the 4x100-meter team that won its race after running the second-fastest time in school history. The quartet of Jackson, Jennifer Pash, Bria Bell and Sydney Griffin clocked in a combined time of 46.99 in the race.

Griffin won the 100-meter hurdles crown with a time of 14.15 while teammate Jennifer Esposito was fifth in the race with a time of 15.13. Esposito finished as the runner-up in the 400-meters with a time of 1:01.96 while Veronica Luedke followed in third with a time of 1:03.78.

Bell and Pash crossed the line in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Bell ran a time of 56.09 while Pash was close behind after crossing the line at 56.75.

Reigning Southern Conference Field Athlete of the Week, Megan Kirschling, won the high jump title after clearing the bar at 5’7” (1.70m). Haley Laird finished as the runner-up with a mark of 5’5” (1.65m). 

Griffin, Bell and Jackson finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-meter dash with Griffin running the third-fastest time in school history at 24.64. Bell (24.94) and Jackson (25.06) joined Griffin in the top five of the race.

In the 800-meters, Jackie Madden was the top finisher for the Phoenix with her time of 2:15.96. Brennan McDavid had a top-10 standing in the 1,500-meter run with her time of 4:56.34.

Freshman Carrie Abraham was third overall in the triple jump with her mark of 37’9.5” (11.52m), fourth-best mark in school history. Senior Charlise Morgan also had a third place standing in her event, the shot put, after a throw of 45’7.25” (13.90m). Freshman Breanna Warren was the top thrower for the Phoenix in the discus with a toss of 139’5” (42.49m), good for fifth overall

 
Georgia Southern Competes at Florida Relays
STATESBORO, Ga. –Georgia Southern added another record to its list of those set during the 2014 outdoor season as the 4X200m Relay team took more than half a second off its previous mark. Freshman Asha Stegall, juniors Jasmin Walker and Jordan Fordham and senior Aarian Tipton placed ninth overall with the latest entry in the Georgia Southern record book at 1:36.28.

This relay, run traditionally at the Florida Relays, also traditionally sees the Eagles break it each year. Both Walker was also on the 2013 record-breaking team as well as the 2012 team that topped a seven-year old mark at the time. Tipton has been a part of the record-setting team twice in a row now.

The 4X100m team took 0.46 seconds off its time from its only other competitive race in that event this year. Inclement weather has factored into the Eagles’ schedule as the 4X100m team raced for back-to-back weeks for the first time this season at the Florida State Relays and this weekend.

Georgia Southern added the Spec Towns National Team Invitational at the University of Georgia to its schedule giving the Eagles one last opportunity to compete before the conference championships. Events for Georgia Southern begin on Friday, April 11th.

 

Wofford Competes at Terrier Relays
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Terriers broke five meet or school records in each respective event as the Wofford men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted the fourth annual Terrier Relays at the Viking Track at Spartanburg High School on Saturday. This year's meet consisted of 26 teams and participants from the southeast, the most ever in the history of the Terrier Relays.

Alyssa Burkert led the way for the Terriers finishing first in two events and set a new meet record in the 1500m run. Burkert finished first in the 800m run crossing the finish line in 2:14.02 and set a Terrier Relays record in the 1500m run with a time of 4:46.75.

Alex Michaels was a part of setting two school records in the 1500m and the 4x400m relay. He set the school record in the 1500m as he crossed the finish line with a time of 4:03.70, good enough for a eighth place finish.

Also, Michaels was a part of a 4x400m relay team consisting of Sam Parrott, Travis Butler, and Justin Whitaker that set a new school record in the event. The team crossed the finish line with a time of 3:24.34, about three seconds faster than the previous record.

In addition to Burkert and Michaels, Katie Kessler had an excellent showing as she also set a school record with a time of 1:06.95 in the 400m hurdles. Ryan Doyle broke a meet record finishing with a time of 9:56.52 in the 3000m steeplechase, which was good enough for a third place finish.

Others that had a good showing at the Terrier Relays included Sam Hughes, who finished second with a time 18:10.96 in the 5000m run.

In the field events, Andrew McCurry finished second in the men’s javelin throw tossing a distance of 47.30 meters. Emily Williams also tossed the javelin on the women’s side and finished in seventh throwing a distance of 30.46 meters.

James Hayworth earned a top-ten finish to top off Wofford’s good showing as he tossed 37.41 meters in the men’s hammer throw.

Wofford also honored its seniors Burkert, Hughes, McCurry, Kessler, Ben Boyles, Carly Egan, and Kathleen Woods for their outstanding contribution and effort to the Wofford men’s and women’s track and field programs.

The Wofford men’s and women’s track and field teams return to action on Friday, April 11, when they travel to Cullowhee, North Carolina to take part in the Catamount Invitational, hosted by Western Carolina University.

 
Samford Competes at Tiger Track Classic
AUBURN, Ala. - The Samford University track and field team traveled down to compete in the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn University on April 5-6.

The Bulldogs broke four school records and posted six top Southern Conference times during the meet.

Junior Marie Demedicis absolutely demolished the Samford 800-meter school record and posted a top SoCon time on her way to a first place finish in the event. Demedicis's time of 2:07.94 broke Hillary Neal's old mark of 2:09.11 which was set back in 2011. Sophomore Anna Laura Irvine took fourth place in the even with a time of 2:10.74 which is good for the second best time in the conference.

Senior Lauren D’Alessio's time of 4:28.40 earned her a first place finish in the 1500-meter event which was also good for the best SoCon time of the season. Freshman Ansley Bos finished fifth with a time of 4:34.16.

Emily Allen broke her own school record again this season after a heave of 60.64m to place first in the hammer throw at the Tiger Track Classic; the throw also represents the top SoCon mark this year.

Sophomore Adam Jones took down the Samford record in the 1500-Meter run with a time of 3:49.77 to place fourth in the event; the record was previously held by Alan Parish who ran a 3:50.42 back in 2010. Jones' time represents the second-best time in the SoCon.

Junior Sidney Jordan took a sixth place finish in the shot put event with a toss of 15.80m; the throw broke the school record held by teammate Brian Smith and represents the best throw by anyone in the SoCon.

Just like the women the Samford men dominated the 800-meter event as sophomore Brandon Hazouri and junior Nathan Hendershot took first and fourth place with times of 1:50.38 and 1:51.26 respectively. The two times are also the top two times in the SoCon this season.

Senior Justin Emerson tabbed a 13th place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.66 and took the top spot in the SoCon.

Two Bulldogs took top ten finishes in the pole vault at the Tiger Track Classic with senior Owen Waggoner's 4.90m and senior Ryan Cook’s 4.75; both scores are worthy of the top scores in the SoCon.
