Schoelkopf Named NCEL Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Alissa Schoelkopf, a softball player at Appalachian State, has been named the North Carolina Education Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week for April 2, the league office announced Wednesday.

Schoelkopf is a junior from Sewell, N.J., and holds a 3.45 GPA in exercise science. She pitched 7 1/3 innings against Samford on March 29, allowing just five hits and three runs. Schoelkopf set a season high in strikeouts with 10 in the game. The 10 strikeouts are one shy of tying her career high, which was set last season against Wichita State when she fanned 11 batters.

Also nominated for NCEL Student-Athlete of the Week were Citadel baseball player Drew DeKerlegand and Davidson women’s tennis player Brites Moniz-Soares.
