Appalachian State's King Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State senior Sebastien King has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 24-30. He finished a perfect 4-0 last week as the Mountaineers picked up a pair of conference victories over Davidson (6-1) and The Citadel (7-0).

King posted a pair of singles victories last week at the No. 1 spot for Appalachian State. The Montreal, Quebec, Canada, native downed Davidson’s Robert Lightborn, 6-0, 6-3. In doubles play, the tandem of King and Zach Bost defeated Lightbourn and Connor Evins, 8-2 at the No. 1 position.

In Saturday’s victory over The Citadel, King held off the Bulldogs’ Elliott Sperr, 6-4, 6-4. Earlier in the match, King and Bost topped Sperr and Peter Bleach, 8-3, to move to 4-0 in conference play.

The Mountaineers return to the court Thursday when Appalachian State hosts Furman.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Davidson’s J.B. Gough, Elon’s Juan Madrid, Furman’s Matt Browne, Samford’s Elliot Barnwell, Chattanooga’s Pavels Grigorjevs and Wofford’s Rob Galloway.
