Furman finishes 17th at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Sophomore Stephanie Carlozzi (+13) carded a final-round 76 Sunday to tie for 41st at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the par-71, 6,142 yard Long Cove Course. Furman finished 17th as a team.
Romero registered birdies on No. 7 and No. 15 to finish the day 15 strokes back of second-ranked Yu Liu (-2) of Duke, who earned individual medalist honors following a playoff with 15th-ranked Caroline Nistrup (-2) of LSU after the duo each fired a three-round total of 211.
No. 3 Duke (+10) won the team title with a three-day total of 862, finishing 10 strokes ahead of No. 14 Vanderbilt (+20). No. 5 Oklahoma (+33) and No. 21 LSU (+33) tied for third, while No. 13 South Carolina (+34) completed the top five.
Furman freshman Taylor Totland (+14) also shot a 76 on Sunday, placing in a tie for 42nd, while sophomore Valentina Romero (+17) birdied two of her last five holes to card an 80 in the final round and tie for 54th place. Senior Aubrie Street (+25) notched back-to-back birdies on Nos. 13 and 14 for a 79 on Sunday, tying for 80th, and freshman Macy McRaney (+34) birdied No. 11 and No. 17 to finish in 88th place after shooting a 79 in the tournament’s final round.
Furman will compete at the Sun Trust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., March 14-16.
The Citadel tops Dayton in dual match
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Citadel golf team concluded the weekend with a team victory in a dual against Dayton University on Sunday as Kellie Anderson tied the Flyers' Mika Suntay and Maggie Prokop for first place.
The Bulldogs, who won their first-ever tournament, edged the Flyers by a score of 331-334.
Anderson (79) fired the lowest first nine of the afternoon (38) to place herself in the three-way tie for first at the Berkeley Hall Club South in Hilton Head Island. She joins teammate Erica Pellegrini as the only Citadel golfer to finish first at a tournament in program history.
Eraina Manor and Erica Pellegrini each fired an 83 to finish in sixth for the Dogs.
Renata Sucha (86) finished in 10th place for The Citadel.
The Dogs' next appearance on the links will take place on March 23-24 at the Low Country Intercollegiate.
