Furman tied for 15th at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Furman sophomore Valentina Romero (+8) fired a 70 to tie for 30th place after the second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Saturday at the par-71, 6,142 yard Long Cove Course.
Romero, who teed off of No. 10, recorded birdies on No. 5 and No. 15 and parred all but one other hole, finishing the day at 1-under, 11 strokes back of fourth-ranked Stephanie Meadow (-3) of Alabama, who continues to lead the field after shooting a 1-over 72 on Saturday.
Paladin sophomore Stephanie Carlozzi (+8) is tied with Romero for 30th after shooting a 77 with a birdie on No. 5 in Saturday’s round, while freshman Taylor Totland (+9) also carded a 77 in the second round after birdieing No. 4 and No. 6 to finish Saturday’s play tied for 40th place.
Senior Aubrie Street (+16) recorded a 79 in second-round play with birdies on No. 12 and 17, finishing the day in a tie for 79th, while freshman Macy McRaney (+26) is in 88th place after shooting an 85 on Saturday.
No. 3 Duke (+7) leads the field with a two-day total of 575, eight strokes ahead of No. 14 Vanderbilt (+15). No. 13 South Carolina (+22) is third, followed by No. 29 North Carolina (+24) in fourth, while No. 21 LSU (+25) completes the top five following Saturday’s round. The Paladins (+42) are tied for 15th with No. 6 Arizona heading into Sunday’s final round.
The tournament, which features 12 team ranked in the top 25 in the latest Golfstat rankings, will conclude on Sunday.
Appalachian State wins Dayton Tri-Match
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Appalachian State University women’s golf team turned in a first-place finish at the Dayton Tri-Match at the Berkeley Hall Golf Club on Saturday.
Freshman Emily Stinson led the Apps to the first-place finish by scoring a 74 (+2) for the tournament. Stinson was crowned tournament champion.
Freshman Hannah Craver and sophomore Yuxuan Li finished second for the Mountaineers and tied for fifth overall with a round score of 81 (+9). They were followed by sophomore Madalyn Davis, who finished in ninth place, and Wenjia Cao, who finished 18th overall.
The Dayton Tri-Match is the second match in which the Mountaineers secured a first-place finish this season. They placed first out of six teams on Oct. 21 at the Quinnipiac Classic in Cromwell, Conn.
The Citadel competes in Dayton Tri-Match
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – In Saturday's tri-match, The Citadel (334) placed second, 12 shots behind Southern Conference foe Appalachian State (322). The Bulldogs beat Dayton (337) by three strokes.
The Bulldogs were led by the duo of Eraina Manor (76) and Erica Pellegrini (80), who placed second and fifth, respectively.
Renata Sucha (87) tied for 10th place, while teammate Kellie Anderson completed the event in 16th with a round of 91.
Top individual honors went to Appalachian State's Emily Stinson, who wrapped up the day with a round of 74. Mika Suntay, who placed third after shooting an 83, was Dayton's top finisher.
The Dogs will take on Dayton in a dual match on Sunday.
