CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s tennis team won its third straight match with a 7-0 shutout against Brenau this afternoon.  The Mocs took nine of the 10 matches played at the UTC Tennis Courts today, improving to 8-2 in non-conference action.

Brenau is one of the top teams in the NAIA and holds a No. 6 national ranking this week.  Three Tigers carry national NAIA singles rankings, including No. 5 Dominika Jasova, No. 20 Maria Perdomo-Medina and No. 40 Zalina Nazarova. 

Despite these accolades, the Mocs were able to control play throughout the day, only dropping one doubles match and winning all seven singles in straight sets. 

Chattanooga started with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles from junior Jovana Pecovski and freshman Rachele Gazzola.  Senior Alexa Flynn and Kaylene Chadwell quickly followed with an 8-1 win at No. 1 to secure the doubles point.

Jasova and Nazarova teamed up at No. 2 doubles and gave sophomore Kayla Jones and Katie Polk a tough match.  It eventually went to a tiebreaker that the Tigers won 7-2 for their only victory on the day.

Singles play took less than two hours, led by a shutout (6-0, 6-0) win from junior Claire Mulyadi at No. 4.  Freshman Alison Storie only dropped one game (6-1, 6-0) in her win at No. 6 while Polk lost two games (6-2, 6-0) in her victory at No. 5.  Jones, Chadwell and sophomore Kelsey Coots won at No. 1, 2 and 3, respectively, to round out the scoring.    

“We are always happy to get a win,” stated head coach Jeff Clark.  “It was good to get out here and get some quality work in.  Now we are on to conference play which starts this weekend.”
