SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior Rob Galloway clinched the match at the top court in singles play as the Wofford men’s tennis team defeated the Bulldogs of The Citadel, 7-0, earning its first Southern Conference victory of the season Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Terriers improve to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the Southern Conference and the Bulldogs fall to 2-13 overall and 0-1 in Southern Conference play with the loss.

Wofford swept the doubles matches taking the early 1-0 advantage. The second doubles team of freshman Haris Poric and junior Walker Heffron took the first match defeating Peter Bleach and Jackson Pride, 8-1. Junior Jackson Keith and sophomore David Sklar tallied the second doubles victory, 8-3, over Oliver Dedding and Connor Grady at the No. 3 position. The top court duo of junior Rob Galloway and freshman Trevor Gotkowski finished off doubles with a 8-5 win over Elliot Sperr and Dillon Berabile.

In singles play, sophomore Parks Thompson won the Terriers’ first point winning the No. 6 spot in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, against Marvin Pagayonan, extending Wofford’s lead to 2-0. Poric then made the match 3-0 defeating Berkabile, 6-0, 6-2, on the second court.

Galloway then claimed the winning point as he defeated Elliott Sperr, 6-3, 6-3, on the top court to make the score 4-0. Gotkowski extended Wofford’s lead 5-0 defeating Oliver Dedding, 6-3, 6-3.

In the final two singles matches, Heffron and Keith battled and claimed hard fought victories at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions respectively, both playing three sets.
