Elon Competes at Raleigh Relays
RALEIGH, N.C.  – Sophomores Sydney Griffin and Jennifer Esposito set new school records in their hurdle events as the Elon University women’s track and field team concluded its second and final day of competition at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday, March 29, at the Paul Derr Track and Field facility on the campus of NC State.

Griffin topped her own program record of 13.95 in the 100-meter hurdles that she set previous day in the qualifying round. The Marietta, Ga., native clocked in a time of 13.72 in the race and finished fifth overall. That time is also the fastest time on the Southern Conference’s performance list in the event.

Esposito also set a new personal and school record in the 400-meter hurdles, breaking Alice Turner’s eight-year mark. Esposito ran a time of 1:00.57 in the race, finishing seventh overall. The Mansfield, Mass., native took the top spot on the league’s outdoor performance list this season.

The Phoenix 4x100-meter relay team of Simone Jackson, Jennifer Pash, Bria Bell and Griffin clocked in the fourth-fastest performance in school history with a time of 47.22. Senior Kayleigh Birks set a personal record in the hammer throw with a toss of 145’6” (44.34m). Freshman Briana O’Grady jumped into the program’s top five all-time list in the hammer throw with a heave of 138’3” (42.14m). Jennifer Jarvis had a throw of 121’7” (37.07m) in the javelin.

Elon concluded the day with the women’s 4x400-meter relay team of Bell, Pash, Veronica Luedke and Esposito finishing the event with a time of 3:47.61, the third-fastest time in the race in school history.

Ari Rothschild of the Elon men’s cross country team also etched his name on the top of the men’s outdoor record book with a time of 31:24.15 in the 10,000-meters, finishing fifth overall.

The Phoenix will be back in action next week with a few select members of the distance team traveling to the Stanford Invitational on April 4. The majority of the women’s track and field team will compete at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational on April 4-5.

 

Wofford Competes at Winthrop Invitational
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Sophomore Ryan Doyle and senior Sam Hughes earned first-place finishes in their respective events as the Wofford men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed in the Winthrop Invitational on Saturday. Doyle and Hughes both finished first in the 3K steeplechase.

Doyle led the way for the men as he crossed the finish line in the 3K steeplechase with a time of 10:00.06. He also grabbed another top-three finish as he finished third in the 5K run with a time of 15:45.71.

In addition to Doyle for the men, Jonathan Rice finished 11th in the 5K with a time of 16:51.63, and Andrew McCurry finished 10th tossing a distance of 11.63 meters in the shot put.

For the women, Hughes finished first in the 3K steeplechase crossing the finish line with a time of 11.13.80. She missed the school record for the event by about two seconds. The school record, which she holds, is 11.11.37.

The Wofford men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams will be back in action on Saturday, April 5, as they host the Terrier Relays at Spartanburg High School. The event will be all day. More information will be posted about the event later next week.

 

Georgia Southern Competes at UNF Spring Break Invitaional
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Inclement weather threw the schedule for the second day of the UNF Spring Break Invitational into a kilter, but Georgia Southern still came out with excellent finishes in the finals of the 100m Dash. Georgia Southern took three of the top four places in the 100m with senior Aarian Tipton winning the event with a 12.22 time. Jordan Fordham took second and Alyssa Felton was fourth as the Eagles dominated the event. The Eagles also competed in the 4X100m Relay.


The Eagles travel back to Florida for the third straight week, this time to Gainesville and the James G. Pressly Stadium for the Florida Relays. Junior Jasmin Walker (Long Jump), Dana Edwards (400m Hurdles) and Sherril McFarlane (800m) will compete in the invitational events with those events beginning the afternoon of Friday, April 4th.

Furman Competes at Raleigh Relays
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Furman men’s 4x1500m relay team of freshmen Brock Baker, Troy Reeder, and Nate Riech, and junior William Ivey placed second and established a new Paladin record with a time of 15:54.98 to lead the Furman track and field teams Saturday in the final day of the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. 

The relay team broke the previous record of 15:47.52, set by Tripp Hurt, Wilkerson Given, James Perez, and Lee Gilmer in 2012.

Two other athletes competed for the Paladins in the final day of the meet.  Senior Jack Klecker posted a time of 31:15.54 in the 10,000m, while freshman Shauna Owen competed the 400m hurdles in 1:08.04.

Furman continues the outdoor season next weekend when the Paladins compete in the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point on Friday and Saturday. 

 

Samford Competes at Raleigh Relays
RALEIGH, N.C. - The Samford University track team competed at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University at the Paul Derr Track Stadium.

The Bulldogs captured two top Southern Conference marks while at the meet. Junior Marie Demedicis posted a top SoCon time of 2:09.37 to take fifth place overall in the women's 800m event, the time also ranks third in the school record books. Brandon Hazouri posted a top SoCon time of 1:51.28 for a seventh place overall finish in the men's 800m; Hazouri's time also ranks fifth in school history.

On day one of competition senior Lauren D’Alessio took 14th overall in the women's 1500m run with a time of 4:30.17; the time ranks second best in the SoCon currently and third on the school's top 10 list.

Sophomore Rachel Wooten placed 12th in the women's 5000m with a time of 11:31.40 which is also good for the second-best mark in the SoCon currently.

In the men's 1500m, Adam Jones placed 17th overall in the event with a third-best SoCon time of 3:51.99; Jones' time also represents the third-best time in school history.

Sophomores Francis Bernard and Luke Weishaar both took ninth place in the women's and men's 5000m run with times of 17:57.05 and 15:05.90 respectively. Weishaar's time also represents a top-five time in the SoCon.

Anna Laura Irvine and Nathan Hendershot placed 11th and ninth respectively in the women's and men's 800m event with times of 2:13.04 and 1:52.17. Irvine's time is a ranks fifth in the SoCon while Hendershot's ranks third.

 

Appalachian State Competes at Raleigh Relays
RALEIGH, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's track and field had a solid finish in the 10,000m run at the Raleigh Relays on Friday and Saturday.

Two distance runners finished competition by Saturday morning at one of the biggest meets in the country, hosted by NC State.

Kyle McFoy led the team in the 10,000m run, finishing 22nd with a time of 29:59.14. The time was good enough for a new personal best for McFoy and ranks him third all-time in Appalachian history.

Chris Anderson followed that performance up with a 10th-place finish in the 10,000m section B run on Saturday morning. Anderson recorded a time of 31:14.03.

The Mountaineers will return to action on April 4-5 at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.

Appalachian State University women's track and field finished strong at the Raleigh Relays on Friday night as three distance runners competed in the 10,000m run.

Meghan McCauley led the Mountaineers with a 26th-place finish in the race and a time of 36:37.65, recording a new personal best. The time ranks McCauley fifth all-time in Appalachian history.

Katie Cagle followed by placing 29th and tallying a time of 36:59.97, good enough for a new personal record and a eigth-place ranking on the App State all-time list.

Dana Cox rounded out the Appalachian runners by placing 30th and finishing with a time of 37:05.28. She would also record a new personal best time.

The Mountaineers will return to action on April 4-5 at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.

 

Davidson Competes at Raleigh Relays
RALEIGH, N.C./ ROCK HILL, S.C. – Davidson set a new school standard in the 4x1,500-meter relay at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State, while several Davidson men's track and field team members competed at the Winthrop Invitational Saturday.

Patrick Rollo, Will McDuffie, Walker Mogen and Grayam Sailor-Tynes completed the middle-distance relay in 16 minutes, 12.00 seconds, to place ninth and shatter the previous Davidson record (16:39.06), set back in 2006, by 27.06 seconds.

Charles Rappe also competed in Raleigh, completing the 400-meter hurdles in 55.94 seconds.

The Wildcats also concluded competition at the Winthrop Invitational, led by another strong relay effort, as Greg Sargent, Ben Corson, Wesley Laytham and Nate Faubion placed fifth in the 4x400-meter run in 3:26.99.

Laytham also led three Wildcats in the 800-meter run, placing eighth in 1:56.59.

On Friday,  Andrew Lantz competed in the 1,500-meter run at the Raleigh Relays, where he turned in yet another Davidson all-time top-10 performance, placing 16th in 3:51.77.

At Winthrop, Stewart Dalton and Xzavier Killings both had busy days competing in three events, as they led the Wildcats in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the long jump. Dalton posted the top times in the 100m (11.38 seconds) and the 200m (23.35), but Killings bested him in the long jump, leaping 21 feet (6.40m) to place 10th. Dalton (20-7 ¼, 6.28m) placed 12th.

Sargent did double duty for Davidson representing the 'Cats in the 400m (53.16) and the 200m (24.24). Nate Faubion also competed in the 200m (23.78).

Davidson will next compete at The Vertklasse Meeting at High Point Friday and Saturday.
