Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson’s Andrew Lantz and The Citadel’s Clay Allen have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Lantz finished third in the 1,500-meter at the 49er Classic with a time of 3:50.47 in just his second race since last spring. His time is tops in the SoCon this season and was a top-10 performance in Davidson history.

Allen broke a 14-year-old Citadel record in the javelin by 14 feet with a throw of 218-6. He is currently first on the SoCon list and ranked 13th on the NCAA East list.

Western Carolina’s Tayla Carter and Samford’s Nicole Charley were selected as the Southern Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Carter won the 100-meter at the 49er Classic with a time of 11.58, also clocking the second-fastest time in the meet in the 200-meter at 24.08. Both of these performances top the SoCon list this season. Carter ran the second leg of the 4x100-meter relay, helping her team finish with a SoCon-leading time of 46.42. She also anchored WCU’s SoCon-leading 4x400-meter relay team with a 54.1 split, as her team finished with a time of 3:40.33.

Charley set Samford records in the long jump with a mark of 19-5 1/4 and also in the triple jump with a conference-leading mark of 40-11 at the Alabama Relays.
