SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Matt Frisch, a wrestler from The Citadel, has been named the North Carolina Education Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week for March 26, the league office announced Wednesday.
Frisch is a sophomore from Oxford, Mich., and holds a 3.52 GPA in business administration. He represented The Citadel at the NCAA Wrestling Championships last weekend, knocking off No. 2 seed Matt Dardanes of Minnesota at 149 pounds in one of the biggest upsets of the tournament. Frisch scored a takedown in the second period to tie the match at 2 before earning a takedown and a three-point near fall in the final period to seal the upset victory and give Dardanes just his fourth loss of the season. Frisch finished the season with a 28-11 record and was one of five Bulldog wrestlers who participated at the championships.
Also nominated for NCEL Student-Athlete of the Week were Appalachian State’s Michael Pierson, Davidson’s Andrew Lantz and Elon’s Taylor Casey.
