UTC's McLennan Named Women's Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga sophomore Emily McLennan has been named the Southern Conference women’s golfer of the week for all competition from March 19-25. The selection is made by the league office.

McLennan tied for seventh out of 93 golfers at the Briar’s Creek Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, shooting a three-round score of 4-over 220. She helped the Mocs finish sixth in the 17-team field, which included six top-50 teams and 12 ranked in the top 100.

McLennan finished ahead of all four of the ranked individuals in the field, besting No. 8 Ashlan Ramsey of Clemson by two strokes and No. 12 Sloan Shanahan, also of Clemson, by 12. The Queensland, Australia, native also beat the 85th- and 90th-ranked golfers, turning in rounds of 75, 74 and 1-under 71. McLennan shot a tournament- and career-best 40 pars over the course of the three rounds.

As a team, Chattanooga finished ahead of four top-50 programs, including No. 40 Kansas, No. 46 Wisconsin, No. 44 East Tennessee State and No. 48 Illinois.

The weekly award is the second in the career of McLennan, who was last season’s SoCon Freshman of the Year.
