BATON ROUGE, La. - Two more Samford University single-season records fell as the Bulldogs swept the Southern University Lady Jaguars 9-0 and 19-2 at Lady Jaguar Field on Tuesday, March 25.

Samford (24-8, 2-3 SoCon) blew past the school's single-season RBI record of 185 in game one and eclipsed the single season run record of 209 in game two; both records were set in 2008. The team now sits with 217 runs scored and 209 RBIs on the season.

In game one freshman pitcher Jessica Stone (2-0) tossed a complete-game no-hit shutout against the Lady Jaguars (1-25); it was the fourth shutout of the season.

The Samford offense posted its first run of the contest in the top of the first inning when Callie Brister reached on an error by the second baseman which allowed Abby Adams to score from second.

Brister finished the day 5 of 6 (.833) with a double, four RBIs, six runs scored and two walks in the two games against Southern.

With two outs senior Arica Dykes drew a walk to get the top of the second inning started for the 'Dogs. Abbie Miranda then doubled down the left field line to drive in Dykes while Megan Dowdy drove in Miranda on a single to left field in the next at-bat. Caitlin Bice ended the scoring effort with base hit to right field to put Samford on top 4-0.

Miranda tallied four hits with three doubles, three runs scored and one RBI in the two games.

The Bulldogs tacked on another run in the third and put the game out of reach in the fifth with a four run inning to go up 9-0.

Samford outdid its game one offensive production and tallied 19 runs on 20 hits and recorded 17 RBIs en route to the victory.

Brister, who went 1 for 2 in game one, went a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with four RBIs and four runs scored. Shelby Scott and Caitlin Bice followed suit as each recorded three hits in game two. Scott notched a five RBI performance while Bice tallied three RBIs.

Miranda, Holly Adkins, Caroline Seay, and Madison Dickey picked up a pair of hits apiece in the game with Seay scoring three runs and two RBI and Dickey drove in two runs with two RBIs.

Adams and Dowdy each recorded one hit in game two.

Freshman pitcher Rebecca Leonard picked up the complete-game win in game two and improved to 3-1 on the season.

Columbia, S.C. – Sarah Mooney drove in four runs in game one and Chelsea Hawkins batted in four in the nightcap to propel South Carolina to a 9-1, 10-0 doubleheader sweep of Furman on Tuesday evening at Carolina Softball Stadium in Columbia, S.C.

The sweep upped the Gamecocks record to 19-12 while Furman slipped to 14-16.

Mooney belted a grand slam to key a six-run bottom of the third for South Carolina as the Gamecocks cruised to a 9-1 victory over Furman in game one.

The Paladins took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.  Taylor Jenkins was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to third after Elise Smith reached on a fielding error and Sieara Bishop notched her second single of the game.  Ambree Muller lined a single to center field to put Furman in front, but Courtney Jacobs was thrown out on the play and Natalie Clemmons struck out to end the rally.

In the bottom of the third, two singles and a base on balls loaded the bases for the Gamecocks before Kaylea Snaer drew a walk to force in the tying run.  Lauren Masters singled to left field to give South Carolina the lead and Mooney followed with her eighth homer of the year, a grand slam, to put the Gamecocks in control.

South Carolina added two runs in the fourth inning before Codee Yeske tripled to open the bottom of the fifth and scored on a sacrifice fly to end the game by the mercy rule.

Yeske went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs to lead the Gamecocks’ 10-hit attack.

Nickie Blue fanned a career-high six batter to pick up the win and improve to 11-5 in the circle.  She limited Furman to one run on six hits in five innings of work.

Paladin starter Lauren Collier (8-8), who allowed six runs on seven hits in three innings in the circle, suffered the loss.  She walked four batters and struck out three.

Bishop’s 2-for-3 performance paced the Paladins at the plate while Stephanie Spain added a double.

South Carolina launched three home runs in the nightcap and plated five runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to a 10-0 win over the Paladins in game two.

Chelsea Hawkins doubled to put the Gamecocks on the board and Lauren Masters followed with an RBI double two batters later to up the margin to 2-0.  Kristen Struett lined a two-run shot down the left field line to double the lead and Victoria Williams made it back-to-back blasts with a solo shot to left field to cap the rally.

After South Carolina scored a single run in the third inning, Chelsea Hawkins helped the Gamecocks take advantage of a Paladin error by clubbing a three-run homer to center field with two outs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 10-0.

Julie Sarratt (8-7) tossed five shutout innings, allowing just five hits and striking out six, to earn the win for South Carolina.

Hawkins went 2-for-2 with four RBI and Ansley Ard finished 2-for-3 with two runs to lead the Gamecocks.

Shelby Parker (4-7) absorbed the loss for Furman after giving up six runs on seven hits in three innings.

Muller went 2-for-2 with a stolen base for the Paladins.
