GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman remained unbeaten in Southern Conference play after blanking Appalachian State, 7-0, Wednesday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

The Paladins swept the doubles matches, winning the top two flights in tiebreakers, to clinch the opening point.  Junior Alex Moreno-Kaste teamed with senior Katherine Oudin to beat Gabrielle Wreder and Mackenzie LaSure, 8-7(5) in the top match-up, and freshmen Blair Martin and Ansley Speaks topped Clare Cox and McKayla Zupan, 8-7(5), at flight two.  In the number three contest, senior Amanda Murray and freshman Karlee Bryde notched an 8-3 victory over Brianna Armellino and Megan Mullen.

Furman won all six singles matches, five in straight sets, for the team victory.  Speaks defeated Cox, 6-1, 6-3, at flight one, and Moreno-Kaste came from behind for a 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 advantage over LaSure at flight two.  Oudin posted a 6-2, 6-1 win against Wreder at number three, then, at flight four, Bryde beat Armellino, 6-3, 6-0.  In the number five match-up, junior Kelly Sullivan defeated Mullen, 6-3, 6-0, and Martin completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 victory versus Zupan at flight six.
