Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Brandon Hazouri and Brian Smith have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Hazouri set a new Samford record in the 3,000-meter with a time of 8:29 in the Bulldogs’ second-place finish at the Battle of I-65 over the weekend.

Smith set a school record with a throw of 50 feet, 10 inches in the shot put, which was also good enough for the top mark in the SoCon.

Elon’s Jennifer Esposito and Samford’s Emily Allen were selected as the Southern Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Esposito finished first in the 400-meter at the UNCW Invitational, clocking a time of 1:01.38 in Elon’s second-place team finish.

Allen set personal and school records in the triple jump and hammer throw at the Battle of I-65 over the weekend. Her 40-4 triple jump and 190-11 hammer throw both are the top marks in the SoCon.
