SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon junior Stefan Fortmann repeated as the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 10-16. One week after posting a perfect 4-0 mark in singles and doubles competition, Fortmann went 3-0 last week as the Phoenix knocked off Winthrop (4-3) and Radford (4-2) to move to 10-3 on the season. 

Fortmann began the week at No. 4 singles and claimed a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Winthrop’s Juan Pablo Boada.  The Wartburg, South Africa, native then moved up to No. 2 singles and came away with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Radford’s Patrick O’Keefe.

Fortmann teamed with Juan Madrid at No. 3 doubles, and the duo cruised to an 8-3 win over Winthrop’s Yuta Hirokawa and Michael Chen. 

Fortmann has now won each of his last five singles matches and is 4-0 since being paired with Madrid in doubles play.  Elon returns to the courts Sunday (March 23), when the Phoenix visits The Citadel.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State’s Oliver Casey, Furman’s Ben Horst, Samford’s Liam Sullivan and Chattanooga’s Luke Sanders.
