Terriers to Face Michigan In NCAA Tourney

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  When the NCAA Men’s Basketball Bracket was released on Sunday, Wofford was announced as a No. 15 seed and will play No. 2 seed Michigan on Thursday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Game time and television information for the second round game will be announced at a later date.

The Terriers are in the Midwest Region, with Wichita State as the No. 1  seed. Other teams in the pod in Milwaukee with Wofford are No. 7 seed Texas and No. 10 seed Arizona State. The winners of the two second round games will meet on Saturday.

Wofford is 20-12 overall on the season. The team won the Southern Conference tournament title game for the third time in five seasons. The team previously won the SoCon title in 2010 and 2011, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Michigan and Wofford have played once before, with the Wolverines winning 83-49 on December 4, 1996. Last season, Michigan returned to the Final Four for the first time in 20 years and finished runner-up, losing to Louisville in the national title game.

Michigan enters the tournament with 25-8 overall record. They finished with a 15-3 conference record and claimed its first outright Big Ten regular-season title in 28 years. Seeded No. 1 at the Big Ten Tournament for the first time, the Wolverines defeated Illinois in the quarterfinals and No. 24 Ohio State in the semifinals before falling to No. 22 Michigan State in the final. Michigan is one of six Big Ten schools to earn a spot in the 68-team NCAA Tournament field, joining Wisconsin, Michigan State, Ohio State, Nebraska and Iowa.
