SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Anyssa Robles and Georgia Southern’s Sarah Purvis have been named the Southern Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. The selections are made by the Southern Conference office.
Robles earns Player of the Week honors after hitting .467 with five RBIs in five games last week. The sophomore catcher started the USF Under Armour Showcase with a 2-for-4 day game against Seton Hall, notching a double and three RBIs in a 7-1 win. Robles posted back-to-back 1-for-3 performances against Utah and Central Michigan before going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBIs, three walks and a run scored in Chattanooga’s 10-3 win over Fordham. She closed her week with another hit against Toledo.
Purvis was selected as the Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this season following her performances last week. The senior threw her second career perfect game in Georgia Southern’s 2-0 win over Kennesaw State on Wednesday, striking out nine. She followed with 5 2/3 innings of relief work in a 3-2 victory over Holy Cross, posting nine strikeouts without giving up a walk or a run. Her final outing of the weekend was six innings of two-hit ball against No. 3 Tennessee, totaling seven strikeouts in the 2-0 loss. Purvis finished with 25 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and posting a 0.75 ERA.
Also receiving nominations for player of the week: Elon’s Aly Quintana, Georgia Southern’s Kourtny Thomas and Western Carolina’s Taylor Sigmon.
Also nominated for pitcher of the week: Appalachian State’s Alissa Schoelkopf, Elon’s Caitlin O’Shea, Chattanooga’s Taylor Deason, Samford’s Molly Hanson and Western Carolina’s Courtney Buchanan.
