Chattanooga’s Britt, Sauzon tie for fifth at Lady Bulldog Individual
ATHENS, Ga. – Chattanooga women’s golfers Jordan Britt and defending Southern Conference medalist Agathe Sauzon tied for fifth at the Lady Bulldog Individual on Saturday. The duo navigated the 36-hole day at University of Georgia Golf Course at 5-over par 149.
Britt opened with a 77 but turned it on for her second 18. She tied for the low round of the day with an even-par 72.
Sauzon was consistent. She was in third after the opening 18 holes, as her 75 (+3) was just two strokes off the pace. She carded a 2-over 74 for round two as she and Britt finished two shots behind first.
Alex Harrell (Auburn) and Chessey Thomas (Tennessee) matched Britt’s afternoon 72 to break out of their tie for third with Sauzon to share the title at plus-3 (147).
Emily McLennan also finished in the top 20. She tied for 19th at 156, completing her day with a 1-over par 73.
Chattanooga opens the spring schedule Feb. 17-18 at the Central District Invitational. This is the second year the Mocs enter the event hosted by Michigan State on the Cypress Course in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
Samford’s Gray earns top-10 at Lady Bulldog Individual
ATHENS, Ga. – Against some of the top collegiate golfers in the nation Saturday, Samford junior Bailey Gray earned a top-10 finish Saturday at the 2014 Lady Bulldog Individual at the par-72, 6,335-yard University of Georgia Golf Course.
Gray, Samford's talented native of Trussville, Ala., registered a 36-hole score of 153 (76-77) and finished just two strokes out of a seventh-place tie with Tennessee's Emmie Pietila.
Auburn's Alex Harrell and Tennessee's Chessey Thomas shared individual medalist honors with identical scores of 147 (75-72). Mississippi State's Rica Tse and Alabama's Daniela Lendl finished tied for third place at 148.
Samford true freshman Arin Eddy earned a 23rd-place finish Saturday with a two-round tally of 158 (80-78). She was followed by teammates Natalie Mitchell (82-77=159), Sydney Needham (84-77=160), Emily Stallings (80-84=164), Alex Jasper (89-80=169) and Haley Harrington (88-94=182).
The one-day, two-round competition consisted of 54 competitors from the following 12 teams: Samford, Alabama, Auburn, Chattanooga, Georgia, Georgia Regents University-Augusta, Kennesaw State, Louisville, Mercer, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Tennessee.
The Samford University women's golf team will next be in action Feb. 24-25, at the 2014 USA Women's Invitational being held at the Azalea City Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.
