Georgia Southern Competes at Samford MultiBIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Jordan Fordham and Jasmin Walker claimed fifth and sixth respectively on Georgia Southern’s all-time indoor performance list in the 200m Dash. Fordham posted a 25.05, taking .20 seconds off her previous personal best, set last year at this same meet, the Samford Multi & Invitational. Walker recorded a 25.08, topping her old PR of 25.26 set in her freshman campaign. Their times in the 200m Friday are the fastest times for the Eagles in non-championship competition in nearly a decade. Both Fordham and Walker should rank among the top five in the conference in the event. Eagle sophomore Taylor Johnson compiled her best points total in the Pentathlon and set personal bests in two of the five events and tied a third. Johnson had the top performances of her career in the Shot Put and 60m Hurldes and tied her mark in the High Jump. Davidson Competes at High Point ChallengeWINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –Michael Lorensten turned in the fourth-best performance of his career and in Davidson history in the pole vault, winning the event to lead the Davidson men's track and field team in the High Point Challenge at the JDL Fast Track Thursday. Lorentsen cleared 14 feet, 6 ¼ inches (4.43m) and now owns the top five marks all-time for the Wildcats. The 4x400m relay team of #Charles Rappé, Ben Corson, Wesley Laytham and Nate Faubion earned the 'Cats only other podium finish of the day, placing second in 3 minutes, 28.71 seconds. Stewart Dalton, Rappé, and Whitner Chase were among Davidson's top performers in the meet. Dalton placed fourth in the long jump with a school top-10 performance of 21-6 (6.55m) to place fourth, and also competed in the 60-meter dash (7.29 seconds). Rappé earned a place on the top-10 performers list in the 60-meter hurdles with a fifth-place finish in 8.91 seconds. Chase also earned a place on a top-10 performers list, doing so in the 3000-meter run by placing eighth in 8:29.23.
Elon Competes at High Point ChallengeWINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior Allyson Oram set a new school-record in the 3,000-meters to highlight a number of great results for the Elon University women’s track and field team at the High Point Challenge on Thursday evening, Feb. 6. Oram broke her own program-record in the 3K by nearly 17 seconds inside the JDL Fast Track Indoor facility.
Oram finished fourth overall in the race and was joined by Tereza Novotna and Elyse Bierut on the program’s top-five list in the event. Novotna clocked a time of 9:55.19 to become the second-fastest performer in school history and was seventh overall. Bierut ran a time of 10:07.88 to finish in the top-10 overall and as the fourth-best performer on the program's all-time list.
Sydney Griffin captured the 60-meter hurdles title after clocking a 8.76 in the race. The sophomore was third in the 200-meters with a time of 25.79 as teammate Bria Bell took home individualist honors with a time of 25.49.
Jennifer Esposito won the 400-meter dash after her time of 58.20, edging out teammate Jennifer Pash, who was second at a time of 59.03.
Freshman Kimberly Johansen was third in the 800-meter run after setting a new indoor personal-record with a time of 2:14.68. Sophomore Megan Kirschling was second in the high jump after clearing the bar at 5’5” (1.65m). Teammate Haley Laird was third after clearing the bar at the same height, but needed more jumps to advance.
Charlise Morgan was the runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 45’3.75” (13.81m). Freshman Breanna Warren was fifth overall with a mark of 42’4” (12.90m). Claire Smith was second in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 11’0.25” (3.36m).
Furman Competes at High Point Team ChallengeWINSTON SALEM, N.C. -- Freshman Grace Tinkey set a new Furman record with a time of 9:33.36 in the 3,000m to lead the Paladin indoor track and field team Thursday at the High Point Team Challenge in Winston-Salem, N.C. The rookie’s time was 16 seconds faster than the previous record of 9:49.53, set by Erin Barker on Feb. 23, 2012. Tinkey, who placed second in the event, was followed by freshman Allie Buchalski, who placed fifth with a time of 9:42.91.
The Furman men’s team had six individuals place among the top 10, including three athletes in the 3,000m, as junior Tripp Hurt led the Paladins with a third-place finish and a time of 8:22.52. Freshman Tanner Hinkle was sixth in the event with a time of 8:28.82, while junior Jack Klecker claimed ninth place in the 3,000m at 8:31.19.
Senior Ian Richardson posted a ninth-place finish in the 800m after turning in a time of 2:01.87. In the field events, Furman placed two athletes among the top 10 in the long jump, as freshman Candler Herrin took sixth at 6.02 and junior Carson Priest placed tenth at 4.79.
