Men's Indoor Track and Field Southern Conference

Indoor Track Performers of the Week Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Brandon Hazouri has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Hazouri, a sophomore from Hoover, Ala., posted a personal-record time of 1:50.07 in the 800 meters at the Hilton Garden Invitational over the weekend. His time is the best in the SoCon in the 800 meters this season.

Western Carolina’s Genvieve Emrick and Appalachian State’s Makayla Roten were selected as the Southern Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Emrick finished the 400 meters at the Bob Pollack Invitational with a time of 55.98, which converts to a 55.25 on the SoCon ranking list for 400 meter flat track conversion. The junior from Franklin, N.C., also posted a 55-second split in the 4x400 meter relay and has been atop the SoCon 400 meter list all season.

Roten, a freshman from Wilkesboro, N.C., finished second in the high jump at the Hilton Garden Invitational, clearing 5 feet, 7 inches, the seventh-best performance in Appalachian State history.

Due to a lack of nominees, the conference did not select a men’s field athlete of the week.
