Wofford Announces 2014 Schedule

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College has announced the 2014 football schedule, which features home games against SoCon foes The Citadel, VMI, and Mercer, along with a road game against Georgia Tech.

The Terriers will open the season on the road at Georgia Tech on August 30. The Yellow Jackets, 7-6 overall and 5-3 in the ACC a year ago, ended the season with a loss to Ole Miss in the Music City Bowl. It will be the second meeting against Georgia Tech and the first since 1901.

Wofford will then play three straight non-conference games. On September 6, Jacksonville University will visit Gibbs Stadium for the first meeting between the two teams. On September 13, the Terriers will welcome North Greenville, another first-time opponent. A road game at Gardner-Webb is set for September 20.

Following the first of two bye weeks, the Southern Conference slate will begin on October 4 against The Citadel. The Terriers have won 15 straight games in the series against the Bulldogs. A road trip to Western Carolina on October 11 is followed by a visit to Samford on October 18. Samford shared the 2013 Southern Conference title and reached the NCAA FCS Playoffs.

The Terriers return home on October 25 to face VMI as part of Homecoming weekend festivities. The Keydets are rejoining the Southern Conference in 2014, with the last meeting between the teams in 2004. The second open weekend will be on November 1. Wofford will travel to Chattanooga on November 8 and Furman on November 15. The Mocs and Paladins each claimed a share of the 2013 SoCon championship, with Furman reaching the second round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs. The regular season will end on November 22, as Mercer will play at Wofford. The Terriers and Bears last met in 1941 and this marks Mercer’s first season in the SoCon.
