Sydnor Named NCEL Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Maryah Sydnor, a women’s basketball player at Appalachian State, has been named the North Carolina Education Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 26, the league office announced Wednesday.

Sydnor, a junior from Radford, Va., holds a 3.43 GPA and is an exercise science major. She averaged 18 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games last week and scored in double figures for the 26th time this season. Sydnor scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in a 74-72 road loss to Georgia Southern. She rebounded with a 24-point and 11-rebound game against Davidson, converting a three-point play to tie the game in the final minute and send it to overtime, where App scored a 72-70 win.

Also nominated for NCEL Student-Athlete of the Week were Citadel men’s basketball player Ashton Moore, Davidson women’s tennis player Brites Moniz-Soares and Georgia Southern women’s basketball player MiMi DuBose.
