SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Tanner Hinkle and The Citadel’s Geno Porter have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Hinkle placed second in the 5,000-meter at the Iowa State Classic with a time of 14:29.18. His time set a new Furman record by more than 23 seconds and is the best time in the SoCon this season.

Porter had a season-best 35-lb. weight toss of 55-9.75 to take fifth place at the UCS Invitational over the weekend. His throw was the best in the SoCon this season.

Western Carolina’s Tayla Carter and Samford’s Nicole Charley were selected as the Southern Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Carter was the top finisher in the 60-meter and 200-meter at the Southern Miss Cupid Classic over the weekend. Carter ran the 60-meter in a time of 7.51 in the final heat and finished the 200-meter in 24.28. Her 200-meter time set a new Western Carolina record, breaking her previous record of 24.50. Carter also anchored the WCU 4x400-meter relay team, which clocked a season-best time of 3:47.11.

Charley set a new Samford triple-jump record, jumping 40 feet, which is the best distance in the conference this season. Her long-jump distance of 18-10 was good enough for the second-best jump in the SoCon this year.
