Furman ties for seventh at Florida State Match-Up

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sophomore Valentina Romero (+6) fired a 73 in the final round to finish in a tie for 12th as the Furman women’s golf team put together its second-best round of the season Sunday at the second annual Florida State Match-Up Tournament at the par-72, 6,314-yard Southwood Golf Course. The Paladins (+36) carded a 296 for the round, concluding the tournament tied for seventh with Mercer.

Romero teed off of 10 and made the turn at 2-over. After parring No. 1, she birdied three out of her next four holes and shot par over her final three holes to finish 1-over for the round.

Paladin freshman Taylor Totland (+8) carded a 74 for the second consecutive day, registering a birdie on No. 8 to finish the tournament tied for 16th, while rookie Macy McRaney (+11) shot a 75 in the final round after posting back-to-back birdies on Nos. 7 and 8 to tie for 30th place.

Senior Aubrie Street (+19) shot a 74 with two birdies on Sunday to tie for 51st, and sophomore Stephanie Carlozzi (+21) carded a 75 with four birdies on the front nine to claim 55th place. Senior Ingunn Gunnarsdottir, playing as an individual, recorded a birdie on No. 1 to finish Sunday’s round with a 79, tying for 45th place.

No. 13 South Carolina (+7) shot a 285 Sunday to win the tournament by two strokes over No. 12 Clemson (+9), while No. 46 Florida State (+17), No. 30 Virginia (+24), and No. 39 Texas A&M (+29) completed the top five.

Matilda Castren (-10) of Florida State claimed individual medalist honors after shooting a 70 on Sunday for a three-day total of 206.

Furman will compete at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C., March 7-9.
