Elon Competes at UCS Invitational
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.  – Elon women’s track and field distance members Allyson Oram and Kimberly Johansen became the program’s top two performers in the one-mile run after competing in the event at the UCS Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the JDL Fast Track Indoor Facility.

A small group of the Elon distance team competed at the event this weekend with all running in the mile race.

Oram clocked in a time of 4:55.95, breaking the seven-year indoor school-record of Alana Black’s by nearly five seconds. The senior from Malborough, Mass., now holds the indoor program records in the one-mile, 3,000-meters and 5,000-meters. Oram finished eighth overall in the race.

Johansen became the second-fastest performer in Elon indoor history with a time of 4:58.41, her first-ever one mile run. The Chelmsford, England, native was 10th overall in the race.

Tereza Novotna was the next runner to cross the finish line with a time of 5:03.62, 15th overall. Elyse Bierut became the fourth-fastest performer in school history in the indoor mile with her time of 5:07.50 while Kaitlin Snapp rounded out the times with a 5:09.49.


Davidson Competes at UCS InvitationalWINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Michael Lorentsen, Xzavier Killings, Patrick Rollo, Grayam Sailor-Tynes, Stewart Dalton and the 4x400-meter relay team all turned in Davidson all-time top-10 performances in their respective events to lead Davidson men's track and field at the UCS Invitational Saturday on the JDL Fast Track.
 
Lorentsen nearly broke his own record in the pole vault, ultimately coming up 3/4 of an inch shy with a top mark of 14 feet, 11 inches (4.55m), to place second in the unseeded section of the event. Fellow field competitor Xzavier Killings had a personal-best day in the triple jump, leaping 42-2 ¼ (12.91m) to place ninth. He also cleared 5-11 ¼ (1.81m) in the high jump.
 
Rollo and Sailor-Tynes led a strong middle distance performance. Rollo finished 11th in the 800-meter run in 1 minute, 54.71 seconds, while Sailor-Tynes earned the same placing in the mile in 4:17.35. Sailor-Tynes led three top-20 finishers for the Wildcats, as Whitner Chase earned a place on the school top-10 performers list in 4:19.17 to place 14th, and freshman Walker Mogen placed 19th in 4:21.68.
 
Dalton leapt 21-0 ½ (6.41m) in the long jump for his fourth top-10 performance. He also ran in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 7.22 seconds.
 
Rounding out the six top performances was the 4x400m team of Charles Rappe, Rollo, Wesley Laytham and Nate Faubion, which placed 10th in 3:27.28.
 
Rappe had a busy day, also competing in the 60-meter hurdles, placing 16th in 8.80 seconds, and the 200-meter dash, finishing in 23.69 seconds. Faubion joined Rappe in the 200m, finishing in 24.32 seconds, and he also ran the 400m, crossing the line in 52.21.
 
In the distance events, Will McDuffie competed in the 3000-meter run, finishing in 9:17.14, while Aaron Forburger paced the 'Cats in the 5000 in 15:39.15.

 

Georgia Southern Competes at UCS Invitational
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –Sherril McFarlane put her name alongside another Georgia Southern record, this time on the Mile Run with a time of 5:06.51 at the JDL Fast Track Saturday. McFarlane took more than a full second off the previous Eagle record which was set in 2005 by Brittney Jett (Swick). The graduate student from Brooklyn, N.Y., trimmed more than three seconds off her performance last month at the Niswonger Invitational.

Freshman Kelsey Arnold came very close to setting the Georgia Southern Weight Throw record, moving her 16.78m (55'0.75") mark up to second all-time. She added more than two feet to her previous best set in January.

The Eagles posted 10 personal bests and tied another in the condensed one-day meet in Winston-Salem. Georgia Southern had four top-five finishes and three Eagles, Jasmin Walker, Aarian Tipton and Alyssa Felton placed in the top eight in the 200m Dash. In addition to her Mile record, McFarlane was the only non-ACC competitor to finish in the top seven of the 800m Run.

Walker posted two personal bests, one in the in the 60m Dash with a time of 7.60 for fourth all-time on the Georgia Southern list. She also had the top distance of the season in the Long Jump, finishing second at the meet with a 5.83m (19'1.50"), good for eighth all-time on the Georgia Southern list.

Also with two personal bests on the day, Dana Edwards finished sixth in the 400m Run and was ninth among collegiate in the 60m Hurdles. Edwards led three Eagles as they finished in order with Felton (10th) getting a personal best and Lauren Toomer (11) just shy of her personal best.

Sophomore Keyanna Harris tied her personal best of 1.65m (5-5) in the High Jump, a height that ranks fourth on the Eagles' career list. Stephanne Hensler added more than two feet to her personal best in the Weight Throw.
