SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon’s Emily Cameron and Georgia Southern’s Sarah Purvis have been named the Southern Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday. The selections are made by the Southern Conference office.

Cameron earns Player of the Week honors after going 6-for-11 with four home runs and 10 RBIs at the Charleston Southern Tournament over the weekend. The sophomore from Kennesaw, Ga., went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run and swiped a base in Elon’s 11-0 win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday. On Sunday, Cameron swatted another home run and tallied three more RBIs in a 9-0 Phoenix win over UMES before posting a two-home run and four RBIs performance against Charleston Southern in Elon’s final game of the tournament. She finished the weekend batting .545 and scored five runs to help Elon finish the weekend 3-0-1.

Purvis gave up just two runs and struck out 16 batters over the weekend to earn Pitcher of the Week honors. Against No. 1 Tennessee, Purvis struck out 10 batters and gave up just four hits in seven innings of work in a 1-0 loss to the Vols. The senior scored her first win of the year against Northern Colorado, striking out six and surrendering just three hits in five innings. She walked just two batters and posted a 1.50 ERA on the weekend.

­Also receiving nominations for player of the week: Appalachian State’s Ashley Seering, Georgia Southern’s Kourtny Thomas, UNCG’s Katelyn Bedwell, Chattanooga’s Anyssa Robles and Samford’s Callie Brister.

Also nominated for pitcher of the week: Elon’s Ali Burdette and Samford’s Shelby Scott.
